Critical Areas Ordinance

Mandated Periodic Critical Areas Ordinance Update

Cowlitz County is required to complete periodic review and updates to it's Critical Areas Ordinance. The next update is due on or before June 30, 2017. Cowlitz County is targeting adoption in winter of 2016. The updates must incorporate best available science balanced with local factors. A review of best available science has been conducted alongside existing regulations. Gaps have been identified and revised code language is proposed. Additionally, several updates are proposed to refine areas under critical areas regulation and improve customer experience during the permitting process.

The Planning Commission recommended approval of the Critical Areas Ordinance on September 21, 2016. It is under review by State Agencies, with comments due in December.
